So many people think Azula alway had it just as hard as Zuko, but no, it’s not 100% true. The point that the show made was that she was more favored than Zuko. Zuko was the one who got physically and mentally abused, for not falling in line. Azula However was already more sadistic and treated everyone terribly, she even smiles when she sees Zuko get hurt by his father (look at her reaction to when her dad burns Zuko in the face, she smiles at it) she enjoys seeing others in pain and being controlled under her, (her “friends” for example) and think she’s owed everything because that’s what she’s always been given in trade for being a excellent fire bender: everything. She’s also very self aware of her own actions and how they are harmful, hence the “my mother thought I was a monster…I mean she was right” scene. Zuko NEEDED Iroh and others to recognize his own actions and how pointless and harmful they were, he’s not as self aware (nonetheless his actions were still wrong) but Azula is aware.

The thing that annoys me about these people is that some instead of justifying the characters actions (beacuse they know its a lost cause) they'll say "You just dont understand them!!" As an argument. Like yeah, i do understand them, i do understand why they act the way they do, but that dosent mean i HAVE to like them.

I dunno, I feel like a nerd having negative traits isn't a huge blight altogether. I mean, we all have people we're close with and yet we all know for a fact that they're not perfect. If someone definitely is disruptive and harmful, I do think they would need their actions reprimanded. But being a nerd, geek or dork it doesn't automatically make you sweet, understanding or patient just because others assume you're that way. People deserve to be who they are, even if they are prickly, selfish or cold as long as they're mature as a person and be self-aware enough to do right on others.

Not because the shows does it best to make him hatetable but because the show tries so hard to make him sympathetic yet he does nothing but awfull things all the time that his relatable moments fell so tame. Oh and the fact that they make him Donald Trump with powets i just don't get why they try to make a one note villain relatable. What did frieza needed Diddy issues to explain his motives? Did frollo needed a backstory to explain his prejudice?

I think part of the problem is people don't seem to realise you can like someone, but dislike their actions, disagree with them, and believe they deserve consequences for their actions liking or respecting someone, and also hating what they've done, are not mutually exclusive

I never really understood all this criticism. I had a classmate who literally made Tori's image her own, she even adopted her facial expressions. I don't think that would have been possible if Tori was “unusual.” This same technique was used in video games when the game character was silent or faceless, just so you could associate yourself with him or her

Boy meets world was probably my favorite show as a kid (and I mean when it aired on tgif, not Disney channel). I've seen about half of girl meets world (because nostalgia). "Communism" in the thumbnail made me laugh so much like "wtf?" that I had to watch this.

I always felt like Dan Schneider was a racist like in the episode in Henry Danger the scene when Henry, Ray, and Chapa were in the bushes lookin for Chapa’s phone and when the black guy showed up Henry asked if that was the dude that stole her phone (which was a valid question) and it seemed like Ray just wanted to shoot him, and there’s another scene after that where Ray literally looked at the messenger and said “shoot him” idk seems racist as hell to me 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I believe Scream movie explained it best about villains being more scarier when there is no motive, even if there is one doesn't mean what the villain is doing is justified. Some people are just simply evil

What I always assumed about the special features of Max’s wand was that any wand can do those things if the wizard knows the spell, but that wand can do those things inherently, the wizard doesn’t need to know how to do it. It doesn’t waste energy or something. Kinda like in dnd there are wands and weapons that have spells attached to them so you don’t have to spend a spell slot to use them.

Well, I’m kind of curious about redeemed villains like Doof (Phineas and Ferb) Agent Kallus (Star Wars rebels) and various Decepticon across the transformers universe. In those situations are you allowed to make excuses for them or are you just supposed to like them with their mistakes

Never understood how understanding a villains motivations or past trauma makes them somehow not responsible or even justified in their behavior. To quote Angel and Spike from season 5: "she was just an innocent victim." "So were we, once upon a time." Majority of tyrants and general abusers or terrible people Were exactly that. It's like when people use the word triggered now, they use it as an excuse for literal fits of rage. That is Not what that meant originally. It was a way to wake someone up who was acting messed up or panicking due to trauma. It wasn't an excuse to continue it, but slowly learn to take Control of how they react so they do Not go from Victim to Abuser but become Survivors instead. It takes Work and Strength and Not a cop out. You may struggle to wake up, but as an adult your Job is to learn to fight that and become the person you Are, not the person other bad things made you. If anything, one point of a complex villain that you can even relate to is to show a mirror so you can avoid that fate and make better choices. I can at least argue Azula is likely 14 and I far more easy to sympathize with Azula's responsibility. Things don't even start hitting you until some are between 15 and 25 when your brain finishes developing. How old you are does actually impact how responsible you are (starting 7ish and rounding out teen to adult depending on influence and development) and how easy it is to fix. But it's a world for kids for them to understand right and wrong so for them simple bad guy. And she would certainly have to do some things to fix her part in it, even if it's still a mirror state... to a degree. She's still in her childhood technically. But no, not justification, just easier to save and not who she is yet, Kuvira however...

Honestly, I think it’s an over application of “victim blaming bad.” Like… I’ve never seen Mean Girls, but even I recognize Regina George. But, just using the information shown in this video: She’s really mean. She’s the villain, or at the very least the antagonist. She does really bad things to the protagonists. At some point, the protags have had enough and put a stop to her, to the point that they maybe go overboard. So, because Regina had something worse done to her, people now see *her* as the victim, and have to do mental gymnastics that would make Simone Biles’s head spin to make her somehow not the bad guy that she’s clearly been throughout the entire movie. And I think the same logic can be fairly applied to most of the antagonists people try to justify. Quick side note: Anyone remember that movie Maleficent? The one that created a whole expansive backstory for the antagonist of Sleeping Beauty designed to justify her behavior and even go so far as to say “No, no, you don’t understand, she was actually the *hero* of that story! The king, Aurora’s father, he’s actually the bad guy!” Well… I went back and rewatched the old animated movie, and there’s an entire scene of Aurora and Philip meeting in the woods before the spinning wheel thing that people just… don’t talk about. And of course the Maleficent movie just completely cut that connection out of the story so they could make the whole “Maleficent breaks her own curse” thing make any amount of narrative sense.
